From wacky to essentially sentual designs, this young lady knows what she is talking about when it comes to new-age architectural designs.
Eh mon! You finally made it to the real deal designer field. Let me tell you a bit dabout the Shotgun house.
Starting with the Yoruba and Edo people of Nigeria, Africa, this design became the basis of all American commercial building designs. Its narrow front and elongated side was built for coastal regions. Unfortunately, the derivative of the word shotgun house came from proponents of slavery. Most slaves lived in small shotgun houses and one could shoot one bullet in the front of the house and it would go through every single room in the house with one shot. I loathe the negative connotation, but I found my culture's contributions to society. Ain't it just like black folk to change something negative into something positive? I found these African roots by way of an Architecture Class from UNL called 'Architecture of the Great Plains.' Discovered from this class was also the historical concept of 'village living'; of which I have also based a design off of for homeless populations. Yes, I challenge my own beliefs as well as societal norms in my designs! So, don't be afraid to ask me for help!
On a final note, I love historic preservation. I hate blight! Older neighborhoods are neglected and I am here to alleviate blight once and for all! So let's get something started!
